I joined Ericsson because I wanted to work for a tech company who are considered leaders in their field, where the emphasis is not just on programming but also technology. Ericsson is a leader in telecommunications and focuses on both software and hardware which is different from other companies and is a major reason why I decided to join.
Here are the top three things I enjoy about working at Ericsson.

Flexibility
At Ericsson, there is a lot of flexibility, in terms of remote working, work-life balance and arranging your working hours as you need. There is also flexibility in terms of what you want to do, what technologies you want to work with and what skills you want to develop. I have the opportunity to work on leading edge technologies and my manager supports and encourages me to continuously grow and develop my skills; which will help me progress my career at Ericsson.
Technology
The opportunity to work with the latest telecommunications technology is one of the best things about working at Ericsson. I get to work on tools and applications that will enable companies to move towards operating on the cloud. I work with Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins and get to be involved in the full cycle of the projects.
I have the chance to come up with my own idea, do research into my concept and share with the team, if it’s approved then there is the possibility that we will start developing it through coding and testing, and I am involved in every stage of this. I’m not just a programmer but also a tester and someone who implements the technology. I expected to only write code in my role, but I have found myself part of the whole process which is something I really enjoy.
It makes me proud to be part of 5G development; when I see my family using their phones, I can tell them that I worked on the technology. Even if I only did small changes, I am still a contributor. Right now, I am working on an automation platform using Cloud Native technologies which will enable 5G & 6G. At Ericsson, we are always working on something new.
Culture
There is a welcoming, open, and diverse environment here. I really like the team I work in; everyone is really helpful, friendly. It feels like we’re a family.
We are always given the support we need to do our best. For example, when I first joined, before I fully started in my role in the automation team, I had six weeks of training with the other people who had joined the graduate program at the same time as me. We were given training and exercises covering all areas we were expected to work on within our roles so when I joined my team, I already had knowledge and experience of the new technology. We continue to have this support and opportunity to develop our skills due to access to platforms like Degreed and other external training websites.
